Wedding weekend.

After spending the Fourth of July in Iowa City, Leah and I headed for Ankeny, Iowa on Saturday morning to begin a day of celebrating the marriage of my uncle Tom and Laurie.

The groom, Tom, and his son, Ben...

Loved the socks!!

The wedding was held at a country church outside of Huxley, Iowa...

...and the reception was held at my aunt's house in Ankeny. It was a great time catching up with everyone.

On Sunday, everyone relaxed by my aunt's pool. The temperature was in the 90s, so the pool felt wonderful!

Before heading back to Iowa City, Leah and I had dinner with two of our very best friends who had celebrated their birthday the day before...

Leah and I had all of Monday morning to spend together before I headed back to Anchorage, so we walked around downtown Iowa City...

One of my favorite Herky statues from the Herky on Parade was the In the Paint Herky. The Herky on Parade boasts 75 Herky statues designed by area artists and placed in Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty and at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids. Another seven statues were donated to area high schools and middle schools, with each school coming up with its own design. The Herky on Parade will conclude at the end of FRY Fest just prior to the first home football game, and all Herky statues will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties.

Leah and I had lunch at Heirloom Salad Company...

YUM!

and then headed for the airport.

As always, it was such a pleasure to get back to Iowa, even though it was for a short weekend. Spending the Fourth of July with my nieces and seeing Tom get married made the trip well worth the long travel.

Cheers!
